We’re all about the content…

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

We’ve had some questions about how content can be submitted and what we’re looking for:

There are two ways to handle it:

  1. Keep art as is and use pinch & zoom - and double finger swipe to reveal each layer - this would be cool, but not a great reading experience - as the pinching / zooming experience is great for examining things but not great for reading.
  2. Edit the art to make it readable on the small screen. This is our preference to maximise the storytelling.

In terms of editing, we can do that; our feeling is that the right number of screens is what ever the story fits in, so you’re probably looking, for a 22 page comic, around 80-150 screens. We can add chapter markers where appropriate to make the reading experience much smoother, as well as backup material (for example, we can maybe add some of the big splash pages as full images on the reader)

The editing would be done by PJ Holden, a professional comic artist who’s worked for 2000AD, Image comics and fantagraphics.

We’d need large images in order to maximise the quality of the editing experience (around 1000pixels wide).

If you have an idea, send us some email, links to samples and let’s get talking!

Moving on…

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

While we’ve enjoyed our 15 minutes of fame, we haven’t forgotten that the whole point of this is to get some crackin’ good comics on the iPhone.

Just to be clear - we are absolutely in support of Apple’s decision to decline to accept material they find unsuitable for the audience, we are asking that they consider that the market is large and varied and what might keep one person happy is going to offend someone else. I’m sure that Apple will come to some decision regarding a ratings system on the App Store outside of games/entertainment appications.

In the meantime, it’s up to comic writers and illustrators to create their content for this new platform. We’re dealing with the first wave of comic creators at the moment and I hope we’ve not missed replying to each and every creator and attempting to keep you all informed.

The first Youtube demo of Murderdrome which in only three days has garnered nearly a thousand views.

In the demo you can see some of the major features of the application, why it appeals to the casual comic reader, the dedicated comic fan and also someone looking to get started in the comic industry.

Some comments:

So now I have to buy an iphone

Looks fantastic! I’m really looking forward to this comic and this iPhone app ^_^
